It used in obstetrics during a specific delivery procedure called a cephalic replacement when a baby is presenting breech (feet or bottom first). The instrument resembles a long-handled hook with a curved tip. The hook is carefully inserted and used to grasp and apply traction to the baby's scalp, aiding in its delivery.
